We're pleased to offer the most recent advance in Laser Treatment for Patients (men & women) desiring a comfortable, effective way to remove unwanted hair using the Cynosure Apogee laser System 755nm Technology, also known as an Alexandrite Laser or the Cynosure Elite YAG laser system using a 1064nm technology.

With a beam of laser light, we can help you solve the problem of unwanted hair, and unveil your naturally smooth skin.

Laser Therapy (with TKS) is a thoroughly tested, clinically-proven method of hair removal. Treatment is relatively quick, and removes unwanted body hair without damaging the surrounding skin.

How do the Cynosure Lasers Remove Hair?
The laser emits a beam of light that passes through the skin, to the hair follicle. The energy is then transformed into heat, which destroys the follicle. The scientific principle called 'Thermo kinetic Selectivity', (TKS) makes this method of hair removal particularly effective.
Why is TKS important?
TKS makes it possible for Laser Energy to 'select' only hair follicles, while sparing surrounding skin from damage. This brings about the cosmetic results you want with the clinical results you need.
How do I know if I'm a candidate for Laser Hair Removal?
If you are concerned about unwanted hair, you are probably a good candidate for Laser Hair Removal.Almost everyone is a good candidate for hair removal with the Alexandrite Laser or Elite Laser. The most dramatic results occurred on patients with light skin and dark hair, but TKS makes it possible for patients with darker skin to receive benefit from the procedure. Other factors can influence the treatment process & are evaluated in your initial consultation.

* The treatment is not suitable for grey, red or blond hair.
Is Laser Treatment Painful?
Most patients describe the treatment as a series of slight pin pricks to the skin. Most patients experience this sensation without requiring anesthetics. Within about 30 minutes of treatment, the area may become pink or red & this may last for a few hours.
How many treatments are required?
Hair grows in cycles. The laser only affects hair when it is in its early-growth phase. The Laser will disable follicles that are actively producing hair at the time of treatment. At any given time, some hair follicles will be in dormant phase. Repeated sessions will treat these follicles when they re-enter the growth phase. A scientific advance in medical laser technology gives us greater, safer and faster solutions to the problem of unwanted hair. It is called TKS and it's only available in the type of laser used at this facility. In as little as 6 - 8 treatments, our laser removes unwanted hair from the legs, arms, back & shoulders --- as well as underarms, the upper lip & bikini line. PLEASE NOTE: As this varies with each person we recommend that you budget for an average of 6 treatments.
This clinically-advanced procedure has been performed in the Musgrave clinic for over 15 years. More than 200 000 treatments have been carried out sucessfully.
Dark Skin Laser Treatment for Hair Removal

Can laser hair removal be performed on people of colour/darker skin types/black skin?

People with darker skin types can now be offered safe, affordable aesthetic hair removal treatments using our gold standard Elite ND YAG Laser.

What side effects can occur with laser treatments?

Risk concerns in people of colour is scarring and hyperpigmentation which can occur if the incorrect laser/light treatment is given. Intense Pulse Light (IPL) is not indicated for hair removal due to the high risk of burns on dark skins. Our Elite ND YAG procedure for hair removal is effective to safely treat darker skin types including skin type 6 (black)

What is the difference between Laser hair removal and IPL hair reduction?

We are aware that there is some confusion for patients in understanding the difference between Laser and Intense Pulsed Light(IPL) treatments for hair removal/reduction.

Both treatments have been available commercially since the mid 90’s. They involve producing light energy which is then absorbed into the dark pigment of the hair to ultimately cause damage to the hair follicle. Hair growth is then reduced without damaging the surrounding tissue.

The main advantages of using Laser Hair Removal over IPL Hair Reduction based technology for hair removal/ reduction are:

Laser technology is simply much more effective, and achieves substantially better results than IPL Hair Reduction. The majority of patients experience permanent hair removal after 6 – 12 sessions.

  • Lasers are far more precise, and can selectively target dark, coarse hairs while leaving the surrounding skin undamaged.
  • Each pulse takes a fraction of a second and can treat several hairs at a time.
  • Laser Hair Removal can be used to treat larger body areas.
  • Laser settings can be adjusted to suit your specific skin tone and hair colour.
  • Laser machines produce a single wavelength of light(pure light consisting of one single colour and form), which has a very concentrated beam and specific target(the melanin in the hair follicles) The type/colour of your hair and skin will determine the tuning setting of the machine and will be discussed with you during your consultation. Laser machines are tuned to emit the exact wavelength required to treat your hair.
  • Laser machines create more heat directed at the hair follicle than IPL systems, hence achieving better results. Because the heat is absorbed by the follicle, and not the skin, there is a decreased risk of burning when using Laser machines. This also makes Laser a safer option for darker skinned individuals.
  • IPL’S are NOT lasers. The machines produce a broad spectrum of wavelengths(like a light bulb) and cannot be focused to a concentrated beam. Because a range of different wavelengths are dispersed at a variety of depths only some of these will be effective for hair reduction. A more shallow penetration in comparison to laser means that deeper, thicker hairs are not treated effectively. In addition, some of the light can be absorbed into the surrounding tissue as well, leading to heating of the pigment in the skin. This is why there is a higher risk of burning darker coloured skin.
